The Hartz Mountains
Well finally we get some pictures (sortof) of the bushwalk to the Hartz Mountains.
The day started wonderfully. The sun was shining, and it looked like it was going to be a lovely day. Everyone arrived at Richards place by 10:30am and we were underway shortly after. Nick & Alison took their car and the rest piled in to Richards. Nick & Alison went stright through to the Hartz Mountains National Park carpark, while Richard, Jim, Mike & Pete took in some extra sightseeing.
We stopped at the Look In Lookout for a bit of a leg stretch…

Then we proceeded up the road to the Big Stump Butt and had a bit of a looky…
Also: as we drove down through Kingston, Huonville, Geeveston, and approached the Hartz Mountains the weather got cloudier, and darker, and cloudier and darker. By the time we got to the top, it was threatening to rain, and with very low cloud deck. It was also getting quite cold.
Once at the top, we all geared up, and started on the walk. We then found a sign asking us to help carry some duckboard treads 250m down the track to help with the construction of the track.
As the walk progressed we kept an eye on the weather as the temperature was dropping, and the cloud deck was shiifting rapidly.
Eventually we made our way to the very pretty and misty Lake Esperance, a glacial tarn. Although we didn’t see any this time, the last time there were freshwater shrimp in these waters.
Nasty Low Clouds
As you can see from the photos, the weather was closing in, so we decided not to risk going to Hartz Mountain, and we’ll attempt it next summer. If you want to know what it looks like, here is a ‘photo of a photo’ of the mountain.

We then walked back to the carpark, and rested for a while. After this we drove down the road a little way and took another little walk to the Arve Falls.

We then walked back up to the cars, and drove home.
