The good thing about camping at Maria Island is that the Camping ground is only a five minute walk from where the ferry docks. We had the most ‘interesting’ time on Maria Island.
We set up our camp, stuffed about for a while, then went on a walk to a small reservoir about a kilometer away, where we whiled away about an hour throwing anything that wasn’t bolted down into the water.
The Campsite
That night we cooked our dinner over an open fire, and sat around that fire telling tall tales and listening to the stereo blasting flat out! At some stage late in the night we were joined by ‘Debbie’, a talkative woman who was after a light for her joint. She stayed for a while, then left, and soon after some English git told us to turn the music down! Go TasTrek! So we went for a stroll in the moonlight down to the docks and back & then went to bed.
Did I mention the goddamn animals? I have never seen so many NOISY animals… Talk about lack of sleep… If it wasn’t a National Park, we would’ve been feasting on Geese, Native Hen, and several species of Kangaroo.
Darlington Point
On the second day, we were up earlyish, and went for a walk around the point and up to a cliff where the view was magnificent. We got back in time for lunch. The weather was warming up and after lunch we all took bathers and a change of clothes down to the beach so we could go swimming.
